"I don't remember seeing you here before," he said, his voice a low rumble that sent an unexpected shiver down my spine.
"First time," I replied, taking a sip of my scotch in hopes of steadying myself. "Am I that obvious?"
He signaled the bartender, who immediately appeared with a beer. No words exchanged. The kind of service reserved for kings.
"Not obvious," he said, those green eyes never leaving my face. "Just... memorable."
The compliment hit differently than I'd expected. I'd come here to seduce him, to make him want me. I hadn't counted on the way his attention would affect me in return.
"And you are?" I asked, playing the part of an innocent stranger.
"People call me Reaper," he said, lifting his beer in a mock toast. "And you have a name?"
"Desiree."
"Desiree." The way he said it, low and deliberate, made my skin flush. "What brings you to Mickey's, Desiree?"
I met his gaze steadily. "Maybe I was looking for something different. Something dangerous."
"Be careful what you wish for." The words hung between us, loaded with promise and threat.
